Description:
Prokofiev and Khachaturian: a unique collection of suites for orchestra by two leading Soviet composers of the 20th century. Prokofiev's "Summer Nights" is a suite of music from his 1940 opera "The Betrothal in a Monastery". It is an opera buffa that revives the classical form in the modern age, and the five pieces used in the suite also have a neat style. Although "Ara and Lolly" was originally written as ballet music, it was eventually completed as a suite for concert use. The second piece, the ferocious "Dance of the Evil God Chusiborg and the Demons of the Demon World," is well known. Khachaturian's "The Masked Ball," for which "Waltz" is known, is dramatic music for a play. Spartacus," a ballet music, is a flamboyant work that makes full use of sumptuous sounds. Kitayenko showed his dignity as a specialist of Russian music by drawing brilliant sounds from the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, making the most of his own power. Naxos Japan
