This classic Pole Bean was used extensively by the Royal City Cannery of New Westminster BC. In production from 1912 until the plant closed in 1930. Thanks to the efforts of Shirley Bellows from Seeds of Diversity, a relative of the owners family sent this bean to her to preserve. Give this prolific producer a good tall fence as it can get huge, easily 8 to 10 feet tall. The 10 inch long pods are delicious and tender.
You can direct sow 1/2 inch deep once the soil warms up or start in small pots 1 month early to transplant to your garden.
